Overview

ASAP Security & Protection was providing overnight construction site security services at a residential development in Munno Para when a security officer detected suspicious activity during a routine patrol.

The incident resulted in an attempted copper theft being stopped in progress, with stolen materials and equipment recovered before the offender could leave the site.

The Challenge

The Incident

At approximately 10:30pm, while conducting a scheduled patrol near the western side of the site, our security officer heard suspicious noises coming from within the construction area.

Upon immediate investigation, an unknown male was observed carrying copper pipe material believed to have been removed from the site.

As the offender became aware of the security presence, he immediately fled the area on foot towards temporary fencing at the rear boundary.

Security Response

Our security officer acted quickly to:

• Investigate suspicious activity immediately
• Interrupt the theft in progress
• Secure the affected area
• Recover copper piping abandoned by the offender
• Recover a Makita reciprocating saw believed to have been used during the incident
• Notify South Australia Police
• Conduct additional perimeter inspections
• Increase patrol frequency throughout the remainder of the shift

The recovered materials and equipment were secured and stored safely for site management.

The Outcome

Due to the proactive patrols and rapid response from security, the offender was unable to remove the copper materials from the site.

The theft attempt was disrupted before any significant loss occurred, reducing financial impact and preventing potential project delays.

No further suspicious activity was detected during the remainder of the shift.
